Final Post: Final Reflection

Looking back on how I have mentioned that I had low morale, low confidence (and so I needed confidence booster) and how uncertain I am, etc, I feel that the coursework has done its rightful deed to "force" me to settle down and think thoroughly on the mannerisms I should have when I am communicating with another person. For instance, an informal conversation with locals ought to have "Singlish" added to sound friendlier and "homely". A formal presentation ought not to have "Singlish" in it which (sadly) I admit that I did so in my presentation.

Nevertheless, the presentation made me realize that presenting to others is not merely conveying my messages across but I have to make sure that they do understand me. However, some points in my part were rebutted for its impracticability (and debates started). It was an experience earned though. (Yes, next time I will think through carefully before I make a point.)

I feel that this course has given me the platform to voice my opinions and test my level of confidence and patience in many ways, especially in working on the group project. It was a challenge to race against time and a lesson learnt. (Never to work last minute, if possible.)

We have come a long way to finally see the end of the module. It is as though it was yesterday that we first met. I am glad we bade for this module at this timeslot, it was great pleasure and joy indeed! :D
All the best for the coming exams!

  1. Hi Jialing,

It is great that to know that through this course you managed to gain more confidence and become more self – aware and certain of yourself when communicating with others. I do agree with you that the main goal of presentations is to convey ideas effectively and concisely – which I think you did a really nice job! ( I learn much more about environmental sustainability through your presentation)

Last, it has been really nice to have you in my blogging group and a real pleasure to have the opportunity to engage in classroom interactions with you. All the best for the upcoming finals and best of luck!!

    Regards
    Valerie

  2. Boo!

You didnt seem to be not confident about yourself during the presentation. Even if you are, just throw in the 'fake confidence' that will influence others to be influenced by your fake confidence. After all, you are there to make your point across.

Singlish or not, it depends on your crowd. If you presenting it to a group of uncles or aunties (i'm using an extreme example here) whose level of English is terrible, speaking to them in good English might backfire on you. In this instance Singlish would have been much better.

Good luck in your exams too. :)

  3. Hey Jialing,

I am going to have to go with Isaac on this one. You most definitely do not seem to lacking in confidence. You're one of the more outgoing and confident girls I know. =) You carry yourself well and can express yourself clearly. You do not give the impression that you are not confident at all!
Anyways, it has been a great pleasure sharing this class with you. All the best for your future endeavours!

  4. Hi Jialing.

To be true, I have never seen you as a person lacking self-confidence. I agree with what Wanliang has said, you have carried yourself well and expressed yourself clearly during the presentation.

Actually, my first impression of you is that you are a cheerful and friendly person. I am glad I have known you through this course.

All the best in the coming examinations! Good luck;-)
